Germany: EPP congratulates Christian Wulff for his election as President of Germany

The President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens, warmly congratulated this evening Christian Wulff for his election as Germany’s new President. Wulff, a leading member of the CDU and former Minister President of Lower Saxony, was nominated on 3 June 2010 by Angela Merkel, Horst Seehofer, and Guido Westerwelle, the heads of the CDU (EPP), CSU (EPP), and FDP governing parties. Christian Wulff received an absolute majority of 625 of votes in the German Federal Assembly, which is composed of the German Parliament plus an equal number of representatives from the federal states.

“I would to extend my warmest congratulations to Christian Wulff, who was elected President of Germany by an absolute majority. Christian Wulff has the knowledge, experience and statesmanship qualities to represent and lead the German nation with authority,” EPP President underlined.
